Alan started making Rope Soled Footwear.

He wrote and published a book on ‘How to Make Rope Soled Footwear’.

Alan Designed ’Shandals®’ Specifically for a client with bunions.

Alan made Shoes and Shandals® for clients worldwide.

Alan trained to study and become a Reflexologist under tutorage of Doreen Bayly - Founder of the BRA.

Alan started training Apprentice Shoemaker Ruth Emily Davey, age 18.

Ruth went on to open her own shop and win many awards for her work as a Shoemaker. She also took on her own apprentice Mariko Kato who makes Shandals® under licence form Japan.

Ruth studied Reflexology as part of her Scholarship with the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust.

Alan and Ruth launched The Original Shandals® Co after finding out their Shandals® were being copied. They began making off the peg sizes alongside their bespoke work.

They took on two apprentices to train them how to make Shandals® then launched a Crowdfunder to launch their first collection of readymade Shandals®.

Alan died at the age of 76. Ruth will continue to run Shandals® and take Alans legacy forward.

Ruth moved The Original Shandals® co. to a brand new premises Arfon House, No 19. Machynlleth where you can see the history of Alans work.
